Umps Contract Ratified by Owners

Baseball UmpireLast week, baseball owners ratified a five year contract with umpires that should put an end to work stoppages that have plagued the sport for years. The deal, which is expected to be ratified by umpires next week, would remove the ban that keeps umpires from working in consecutive World Series.

Removal of the ban would allow the best umpires to work those very important games. This is a big deal because of so many blown calls in the 2009 postseason. With less blown calls, it would be even safer for the umps because hitters would be less likely to chase down the ump with a baseball bat to try to get him to change his call!
