Mets Hope 200 is a Better Year

New York Mets cap logoThe New York Mets would just like to forget about the ’09 season and move on to better things in 2010. Even though they had the highest payroll in the National League, injuries (a lot of them) and underperformance (never good) cut their legs out from under them. With a dismal record of 70-92, their worst since 2003, they could only muster a fourth place finish in the tough NL East.

The situation isn’t totally hopeless. The Mets do have a star-studded nucleus if they can keep them healthy. There’s not much depth on the bench and the farm system is a couple of years away from being much help. They do have Daniel Murphy who led the team with 12 home runs, and has several baseball gloves and mitts he can use to play first base, second base and the outfield. This would allow GM Omar Minaya to focus on acquiring a hitter, not a position player. It does look, however, like it will be another year or two before the Mets are back in the hunt…
