A Girl’s Softball Memories

Softball FieldYears ago, my daughter Brenda played girl’s softball for about two or three seasons. I asked her if she had any memories that stuck out in her mind. She said she had a few-mostly silly ones, she could remember. She had fun playing, but never intended to stay with it for very long. She started her short softball experience when she was about six or seven years old, after a year of playing T-ball.

Brenda says she remembers the young girls with the ‘really big’ girl’s softball gloves on their hands. It would be a good year before they would grow into them. She also remembers some of the chants they would do to try to intimidate the other teams. Her favorite was: ‘pork chop-pork chop, greasy-greasy, we can beat your team, easy-easy.’ (They would do that one about 30-40 times a game. Unbelievable!) She also remembered the ten or fifteen parents in the bleachers doing the ‘wave.’ Now, that was a sight to behold! Sometimes, we only had two or three of us, so you kind of had to use your imagination. Yes, those were fun, silly days.
